Nienke came to hang out at our hotel for the afternoon, here with Willem in the shower.

The hotel was so kind as to deliver a birthday cake to the room for the birthday-boy!

Bali 2006

Ain't it a glamorous life...

Bali 2006

Willem in the room enjoying the welcome fruit platter.

Bali 2006

After rouging it for a few days and the harrowing boat ride, we quickly took shelter in the next 5 star resort... Sofitel Seminyak.

Bali 2006

We made it safely to shore! If you click on (any) photo, a larger version will appear in which you can clearly see just how many people are still on the boat, despite all these people on the beach already having gotten off it.

Bali 2006

Up on the roof with the locals, fowl and all (in the little wicker basket), for two hours over the sea .

Bali 2006

Time to leave Bounty Island; on a rickety boat packed with people, most of them on the roof (...) we set off for a two hour boatride on the 'local ferry, as opposed to the 'tourist transfer' we had arrived with... a different experience all together!

And the sun gently sets...

After a busy day of drift diving, some time to relax.

Getting ready to take the plunge

Bali 2006

Eric went drift-diving, where the ocean's current just drags you along. A boat drops you off in one spot, and one hour later, picks you up several miles down stream...it was really cool...

On the cliff next to the resort

Bali 2006

Willem enjoying the view and the gentle sea breeze in the resort's restaurant.

Bali 2006

We settled for the Mushroom Bay Bungalows, a lovely place. The island has limited fresh water so showers (and brushing teeth) are with salt water and the toilet is flushed manually. The locals where proud to say that they did have electricity around the clock now...

Bali 2006

And there it is...

Bali 2006

Eric on the boat to Lembongan

Bali 2006

And our next stop is Lembongan Island, a laid-back bounty island just off Bali. Here's Willem while on the boat ride over.

As we left Ubud, these kids were preparing for another schoolday

After the show, some more food, this is at Nomad's, our favourite restaurant in Ubud.

Bali 2006

The next night we went to another performance at the Ubud Palace.

Ubud is surrounded by some of the most spectacular rice terraces in Bali.

A lovely breakfast was brought up to the terrace as soon as 'they' saw movement...

The performance ends with a guy with a horse head dancing barefeet through a pile of burning coconut shells...
