Onwards to Byron Bay, a community that prides itself on its bohemian lifestyle. Due to this lifestyle, which primarily means getting stoned all day and running into freaks that insist on showing footage of the UFO sightings that occur frequently as well as members of the Raelian cult, the ones who claimed to have cloned a baby. Back on land and a final farewell to the fellow cruisers. The skipper got so poluted that he got thrown out of the beerhall, and as a ship without a skipper doesn't get very far, a night of frantic bar-hopping folowed.
On Monday we set sail for the Great Barrier Reef National Marine Park and Whitsunday Islands. A 4 day sailing adventure in one of the world's most stunning places. Life is good.
On Sunday we flew up to Mackay, were we rented a car and drove to Airlie Beach, gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands. Why it's called Airlie Beach is a mystery, a more appropriate name would be Airlie Pool. Willem is laying by the world famous Airlie Beach Lagoon, as they call the pool.
